Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi to lead Assembly of Experts that chooses and oversees Supreme Leader/ TEHRAN—The body that chooses and supervises Iran’s Supreme Leader has elected a conservative cleric as its new chairman, dealing a blow to progressives at a crucial time in the nuclear talks with the U.S. and other world powers. Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi was elected on Tuesday to the position in Iran’s Assembly of Experts by a vote of 47 out of the body’s 73 members, according to state news agency IRNA.
