With Israel still reeling from the worst attack in its history and Gaza already under devastating bombardment, it felt like a turning point. The Israel-Palestine conflict, largely absent from our screens for years, had exploded back into view. It seemed to take almost everyone by surprise. The US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had famously declared just a week before the attacks: “The Middle East region is quieter today than it has been in two decades.” More than 41,000 Palestinians are dead.
