RALEIGH, N.C., July 15 (Reuters) - The latest battle in the legal war over partisan gerrymandering begins on Monday in North Carolina, with the start of a trial over whether the Republican-drawn state legislative maps violate the state constitution. Common Cause North Carolina, a good government advocacy group, and the North Carolina Democratic Party will try to convince a three-judge panel in state Superior Court in Raleigh to throw out the district lines and force lawmakers to design a new map free from political bias.
