Iran Earthquake 2012: Moderate Quake Hits Northwest, State TV Says
TEHRAN, Iran — A 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit northwestern Iran on Saturday, likely damaging rural areas although no casualties have been reported, state TV said. Iran's main news channel said the moderate quake hit the town of Ahar in East Azerbaijan province at 4:53 p.m. local time (GMT 12:23). The broadcast said three aftershocks – measuring 6.0, 4.7 and 4.1 – jolted the same area and were felt in a wide region near the Caspian Sea.
