4 dead in Iran pipeline blast
TEHRAN, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- A gas pipeline explosion left four people dead and 16 injured, officials said. The Tehran Times reported Alireza Gharibi of the Iran Engineering and Development Co. told the Mehr News Agency the blast occurred Friday when a 30-inch pipeline ruptured near Mashhad. Gharibi told the news agency ISNA an excavator struck the pipeline, which transports gas from the Khangiran refinery at Sarakhs to Mashhad. Iran's Press TV reported Saturday the explosion did not interrupt the flow of gas through the country.
