Avalanche kills 17 soldiers in Indian Kashmir
At least 17 Indian soldiers have been killed and several others trapped when an avalanche slammed into a military camp in the Baramulla district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The accident occurred at in the Khelenmarg Mountains, close to the Kashmiri ski resort of Gulmarg, which has become a major draw for foreign skiers. Gulmarg lies 50 kilometers (31 miles) west of Srinagar, the Kashmiri summer capital. Officials said there was little chance of any tourist being trapped.
