Everything we think we know is wrong, and every circumstance and person is far too many-sided for us to begin reliably to assess. This isn't a recipe for confidence, and it certainly flies in the face of the entertainment industry's conventional wisdom that we need Hollywood endings and clear-cut heroes and villains.
