Iran may shun Frankfurt Book Fair over Salman Rushdie invite
- Iran is thinking of boycotting the Frankfurt Book Fair due to its plan to invite Salman Rushdie, the writer of “The Satanic Verses”, a blasphemous novel about Islam, Deputy Culture Minister for Cultural Affairs Seyyed Abbas Salehi said on Sunday. “The Satanic Verses” published in 1988 provoked Muslims’ outrage, which culminated in a fatwa by Imam Khomeini, the founder of Islamic Republic, calling for Rushdie’s death.
