85% of Iran is dry: energy official
- Deputy Energy Minister Sattar Mahmoudi has said that 85 percent of the Iranian land is dry. “As the population and industry grow, water consumption has gone out of hand,” Sattar Mahmoudi said, Qatreh news website reported on Sunday. He added that in the past four decades, the average rainfall in Iran has dropped from 250 to 240 mm, the annual runoff water volume lowered from 86 to 46 million cubic meters, and renewable water resources decreased from 135 to 110 million cubic meters.
